Object Name Painting
Description portrait in uniform looking right. The pose was copied from a photograph made around 1855 of Marr in civilian clothes. Washington added captains insignia and a sword to create the military pose. Marr was the first confederate officer to be killed in the civil war, 31 May 1861.
