Day Camp recruits "take the oath"

The Civil War Day Camp allows children to participate in such activities as the School of the Soldier (the process of turning raw recruits into infantrymen) and a guided tour of the battlefield. Day Campers will also learn about life on the “home front” at the Park’s Bushong Farm, with domestic chores such as fence building. Among the Day Camps’ other components are 19th-century games, Civil War camp songs, word searches, craft activities, and viewing the Park’s Emmy Award-winning film, Field of Lost Shoes.

Civil War Day Camp programs complement Virginia Standards of Learning and those of several other states.
